BHADERWAH,JAN 22 (KNO) : Recognising the importance of promoting environmental awareness amongst students, the Bhaderwah campus of Jammu University today launched plantation drive and an awareness programme on ‘Go Green’ activities on aimed to involve students, teachers, and staff alike.More than 1000 plants of Deodar and several other varieties will planted during the month long drive in campus .Rector Bhaderwah campusProf G M Bhat distributed saplings to the students and staff members and asked them to plant the same in whole premises of campus and all participants also took a pledge to protect the environment and eco-system.Prof G M Bhat informed that the objective of the go green campaign and plantation on of 1000 saplings of Dedodar in campus premises is to create awareness and usefulness of Plants and cleanliness and creating eco-friendly atmosphere in and around Bhadewrah campus .He also laid emphasis on enhancing the survival rate of planted saplings by taking care of them.The plants must be nurtured with a feeling of close relationship as if they are part of one’s family, he said.After this massive tree plantation this campus of Jammu University will be made a model campus , announced the Rector .SDPO Bhaderwah Birjesh Sharma , Coordinator Bhadewrah campus Prof Kuljeet Singh , Ranger Officer Neeru forest department , Medical Officer BC Raees Ahmed Khuja and other said the tree is ornamental and is believed to have medicinal value as well and appreciated Rector Bhadewrah campus for plantation drive. "The initiatives would bring major relief to the environment. This will maintain the balance in the environment," they said. They dwelt at length on the urgent need of protecting the atmosphere through plantation of trees. They told emphatically that in view of the increasing threat to the planet earth as a result of extensive pollution, deforestation and disturbances to the Ozone layer, it becomes imperative to adhere to the guidelines circulated by various agencies concerned with the preservation of fauna and flora so that life on earth remains secure.(KNO)
